Curated by Geraldine Bloch, In the Night celebrates the unbreakable bonds that unite us with the night.
The widespread use of artificial lighting has significantly altered our connection with darkness, somewhat desecrating night’s sanctity. Nevertheless, the ambivalent feelings and emotions stirred within us at night remain largely unchanged. From dusk to dawn, nighttime amplifies our perceptions and creativity, occasionally ushering in a kind of “clairvoyance” that is worth embracing.
While having a transformative effect on us, the night is transformed, in turn, by the countless real and imagined phenomena that disrupt its chilly serenity.
The artists invite us to embark on a sensitive and poetic journey along the borders of the visible, navigating the layers of the nocturnal realm. From the profound and enveloping darkness that engulfed our ancestors to the ‘domesticated’ nights of urban landscapes, the artworks form a constellation of eyes fixed on our contemporary nights. Invented and lived, potent yet delicate, these ‘encapsulated’ nights trace an imaginary geography of our dreams and fragility.
